The team at i4PD are very pleased to welcome John to the team, taking on the position of Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Soon to make a move northbound to Scotland from Manchester, John will bring a fantastic knowledge of design to i4PD's work.  

Summary of your background

I've designed and developed a wide range of products across various industries, both as part of in-house design teams and as a consultant designer.  I am passionate about innovation and bring a deep understanding of the design process into my work, from initial concept ideation through to final production. 

What is your role at i4 Product Design?

I am a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at i4PD and I'm looking forward to helping transform ideas into tangible prototypes and real-world solutions.

What interests you?

Visiting new places and exploring different cities is always exciting. When I've used up all my holidays I'll be out on my bike, if it's not too wet!  As I'm new to Edinburgh I'm looking forward to discovering more of the east coast.   

What are your 3 favourite product designs?

Aeropress - I use this almost every day and struggle to make a bad brew. It's easy to use, clean and experiment with.  It’s also survived a few drops onto my kitchen floor. 

iPhone 4 - I really liked this phone. I was designing handheld computers at the time of its release and could appreciate the innovative design features, including the external steel antenna around the perimeter. 

Harvey Lamp  - Designed by a friend, this LED lamp looks great with its clean aesthetic and incorporates unique adjustable joints that offer an excellent range of movement. Being involved in the assembly of the first batch, I recognised the attention to detail in the design, even down to the stitching on the switch.
